Return to the first hunting exhibition in Slovakia

Exhibition in the museum: "RETURN AFTER A CENTURY to the first hunting exhibition in Slovakia in the original building"

in the Podtatranské Museum in Poprad we are preparing a new exhibition from June 21, 2026: "RETURN AFTER A CENTURY to the first hunting exhibition in Slovakia in the original building".

The Podtatranské Museum in Poprad commemorates an important event in 2026 – the 100th anniversary of the historically first hunting exhibition in Slovakia. The exhibition in 1926 fundamentally influenced the further development of the entire museum. Despite several obstructions, it was announced on January 1, 1926 that the exhibition would take place in July in the premises of the Carpathian Museum in Poprad (today the Podtatranské Museum in Poprad) under the leadership of the deputy exhibition director Kazimír Kozlovský. The main organizer of the hunting exhibition was the editor of the magazine Nimród Vidor Juráň. Extensive preparations were also required for the extension of the museum building, which was decided by the management of the Hungarian Carpathian Association on March 27, 1926. The construction work was entrusted to the builder Július Marcsán. Although the original budget was 54,000 crowns, the final costs reached 70,000 crowns. Thanks to the support of the public and the city of Poprad, two new exhibition rooms with an area of 242 m2 were created. The exhibition was not only a significant social event, but also an impetus for the expansion of the museum, which is still part of its history today.
