Vihorlatská hvezdáreň Observatory in Humenné is a regional specialized scientific-research and cultural and educational institution focusing on astronomy and related natural sciences.

The observatory was established in 1952. Its building situated in the town center offers the possibility to give lectures to the audience of as many as 50 people. The dominant element in the observatory is the Vihorlat national telescope - a Cassegrain telescope that is located in the four-meter dome. The biggest telescope in Slovakia has the main mirror with the diameter of 1 m. Expert activities are performed here related to the observation of variable stars, meteoroids, stars obscured by the Moon and the photosphere of the Sun.

The expert work of the observatory is performed primarily on the detached workplace in the Astronomical Observatory at Kolonické sedlo that was established in 1999. It is situated in the beautiful setting between the Vihorlatmountain range and the Bukovské vrchy Mts., about 38 km from Humenné.

Based on observation and scientific research, the Vihorlatská hvezdáreň Observatory collects, scientifically and expertly analyzes, processes and presents to the public the latest findings from astronomy and related sciences in the Horný Zemplín region.

Sninský kameň

Prírodná pamiatka Sninský kameň sa nachádza v pohorí Vihorlat v katastri obce Zemplínske Hámre. Pre veľký vedecký a kultúrno-spoločenský význam bol Sninský kameň vyhlásený v roku 1982 za Chránený prírodný výtvor. V súčasnosti možno Sninský kameň nájsť ako prírodnú pamiatku, ktorú tvorí tzv. neplodná plocha (skala) obklopená ochranným lesom.
