Church
Synagóga v Nitre je vzácnou architektonickou pamiatkou mesta, zapísanou v Ústrednom zozname pamiatkového fondu SR. Nachádza sa v pamiatkovej zóne v centre mesta na Ulici pri Synagóge - v ochrannom pásme mestskej pamiatkovej rezervácie.
Synagóga bola postavená v rokoch 1910-1911 v maursko-byzantskom štýle na objednávku nitrianskej neologickej náboženskej obce. Je ukážkou eklektickej sakrálnej stavby, napodobňujúcej byzantskú a orientálnu architektúru. Inšpirácia orientálnymi slohmi dodáva tomuto objektu atraktívny architektonický výraz.
Stavba má centrálny štvorcový pôdorys a je ukončená centrálnou kupolou s polygonálnym plášťom a nárožnými kupolami. Interiér tvorí štvorcový sieňový priestor otvorený do kupoly dosadzajúcej na štyri piliere, ktoré súčasne podopierajú poschodovú emporu – ženskú galériu.
Uprostred východnej steny centrálneho priestoru modlitebne je svätostánok – áron hakodeš.
Nitra stáročia patrila k najvýznamnejším centrám židovského života na Slovensku. Prvú písomnú zmienku o prítomnosti židov na tomto území označenom ako Mons Judeorum (Židovský vrch) nájdeme už v druhej Zoborskej listine z roku 1113.
V súčasnosti už Synagóga neplní svoj pôvodný náboženský účel, ale od roku 2003 slúži predovšetkým ako koncertná a výstavná sieň Mesta Nitra.
