Liptovská cyklomagistrála
Popod Nízke Tatry
Beneath the Low Tatras
The route starts behind the village of Partizánska Ľupča. A broken asphalt road with ascents and mild descents leads through fields and alongside woods taking you above the village of Liptovské Kľačany. Following the national road you will get to the village of Ľubela in order to ascend again and get back to the foot of the Low Tatras through the village of Dúbrava. Before entering Dúbravská valley take a turn on a worse road leading you above the village of Lazisko. After a short ascent along the country road you will get to Demänovská valley, pass the main road and continue through the villages of Ploštín and Iľanovo. One more ascent and you can admire the views of the entire town of Liptovský Mikuláš. Závažná Poruba is the next village waiting for you. An ascending road through the village will lead you to two abandoned hotels. After leaving the asphalt road you´ll be ascending through the forest and then descending to the village of Liptovský Ján and another village of Podtúreň. Taking the main road you´ll reach the town of Liptovský Hrádok. After crossing the bridge above the river Belá take a right turn on the river bank and alongside the river Belá and the river Váh you will get to the village of Liptovská Porúbka. Passing by the village you will approach the forests of the Low Tataras again. Then cross the main road leading now to the mountain pass Čertovica. You´ll roll over the village of Kráľová Lehota and leave it behind after short ascending. A good asphalt road is wriggling through the valley to the village of Svarín. Ascents alternate descents along this asphalt road leading you to a lower reservoir of the hydro-electric power station Čierny Váh. It´s an interesting construction because water from this reservoir is drawn by the upper one situated up the hill in front of you. If electricity consumption increases, water from the upper reservoir runs back again down the turbines. However, you do not continue so high. Your route is wriggling further alongside the reservoir towards the wood, short ascends alternate short downhill rides and you are getting nearer to the finish line.
