We will first warn you to prepare for a steeper climb if you choose a shorter route. Choose from Uhrovské Podhradie following the green sign, at the beginning you need to be careful about the correct turn from the road to the sidewalk on the left, which is located between the two fences. Although the signposted time to the castle is 55 minutes, you can do it in half an hour along this route. After exhaling, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the surrounding wooded hills as well as the entrance to Uhrovec Castle.

Its origins date back to the second half of the 13th century. For some time, its owner was also the well-known Matúš Čák Trenčiansky, who acquired the castle in exchange for property in Tekov. After his death, the castle became the property of King Karol Róbert, later Sigismund of Luxembourg, who dedicated it to Ctibor of Ctiborice and his brothers.

Precisely due to the fact that the castle is located in inaccessible terrain, it did not find itself in the center of the fighting and was not destroyed even by Turkish troops during their raids. For this reason, many nobles kept their valuables and deeds of donation here. The last owner of the castle was the Zay family from Croatia. However, due to their comfort, they started to use the pleasant manor house in Uhrovec more and the castle began to lose its role. He still served as a prison for some time, but gradually they left it completely and let it fall into disrepair. In the 19th century, the castle burned down and only ruins remain. Nevertheless, the late Romanesque chapel and towers have been preserved, but you will certainly be interested in what the toilets, fireplaces or cisterns looked like, which you will not find on other ruins.

Since 2015, volunteers have been participating in the restoration of the castle. At present, several events take place at the castle every year, and after an agreement with the castellan, you can also spend the night at the castle.
