The Memorial of the Dead at Brezová pod Bradlom

The Slovak Volunteer Corps went through its first battle baptism on 22nd September 1848. This happened at the battlefield near Brezová pod Bradlom and this event is commemorated by the Memorial of the Dead at Brezová pod Bradlom.

The important pages of the new history of the Slovaks were written in the years 1848 and 1849 in the mountains of Myjavská pahorkatina. In September 1848, in Vienna, the Slovak Volunteer Corps was formed that set off across Morava towards the territory of Slovakia. More than 700 Slovak volunteers chased the troop of the Hungarian guardsmen.

This memorial place of the first armed meeting of the Slovak Volunteer Corps at Brezová pod Bradlom  in 1848 is commemorated by the Memorial of the Dead. It has a form of a stone pyramid and was designed by a prominent Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič.

The observation tower Hrajky

At a sacred place near Turá Lúka stands the observation tower Hrajky. The silent atmosphere coming from the surrounding hills is seldom cut by the noise of cars driving on the near road. From the observation tower you can enjoy the silhouette of large hills. At the sunset, when the sky changes color into yellow and purple, the place becomes a quite place suitable for relaxation and meditation. Observation tower Brestovec

A spectacular 21.5 meters high wooden observation tower Brestovec - Poľana stands on the edge of the grove in the picturesque village of Brestovec. It was built in 2009 at an altitude of 580 meters. The tower has 137 steps and its viewing platform is 20 meters above the ground. The platform is secured with sixteen wire ropes, thus making it safe even in the windy weather, although it slightly wobbles. When the weather is nice, visitors can see the White Carpathiansw, Myjava hills, Little Carpathians, Považský Inovec, Tribeč, Vtáčnik and Strážov mountains, Veľká Javorina, Inovec, Strážov, Mahár, Branč castle, Záruby and Ostrý vrch with a wind farm. The road towards the tower leads from Myjava through Vrbovce to Brestovec. After climbing a steep hill in Brestovec turn to Poľana and after one and a half kilometers there is a bus stop. From there it is only 500 meters long walk to the tower.
