Ždiar - typical Goral community
ŽDIAR is a typical Goral community situated between the mountains of the Belianske Tatry and Spišská Magura. It is a tourist centre and the starting point for trips to the mountains Belianske Tatry.

Malebné Zelené pleso sa nachádza vo východnej časti Vysokých Tatier. Je to nádherné ľadovcové jazierko v závere najvýchodnejšej vysokotatranskej doliny, v nadmorskej výške 1540 metrov. Priamo na brehu jazera stojí turistická chata s celoročnou prevádzkou.
Zelené peso získalo svoje pomenovanie podľa zelených škvŕn, ktoré spôsobilo vyvieranie prameňov na jeho dne. Podľa dávnej povesti však tieto škvrny spôsobuje oslnivý zelený drahokam, ktorý do vody spadol z priľahlého štítu Jastrabia veža. Isté, je že Zelené pleso patrí k najkrajším plesám Vysokých Tatier a je veľmi obľúbeným miestom turistických výstupov.
Na južnom brehu Zeleného plesa sa skláňa najvyššia tatranská stena Malého Kežmarského štítu. Na západnej strane dominuje Jastrabia veža. K jazierku vedie údolím žltý turistický chodník.. Východiskovým bodom sú Tatranské Matliare alebo autobusová zastávka Biela Voda kúsok za Matliarmi. Prejdenie celej trasy zaberie približne 4 a pol hodiny čistého času.
Z autobusovej zastávky pri Bielej vode je stúpanie relatívne nenáročným stúpaním v pásme lesa. Po dvoch hodinkách sa les prehupne do kosodreviny a pred vami sa otvoria krásne Tatranské štíty. Potom je to už len pol hodinka chôdze popri potoku k Chate pri Zelenom plese. Na chate vám chutne navaria zopár jednoduchých jedál v horolezeckej kuchyni, dobre padne gulášik, slivovica či pivo s krásnym výhľadom na Zelené pleso a Vysoké Tatry. Ak sa nechcete vracať rovnakou cestou naspäť, je možné ísť ďalej na Veľké Biele pleso, vzdialené len čosi vyše polhodinky. Naspäť sa vrátite po modrej trase k autobusovej zastávke Biela Voda alebo do Tatranských Matliarov. Ak máte chuť, túru na Zelené pleso si môžete predĺžiť aj výstupom na Jahňací štít alebo pokračovaním na Skalnaté pleso a návratom cez Folvarskú poľanu po modrej.
