Divadlo vzniklo v r. 1957 pod názvom Štátne bábkové divadlo. V roku 1993 prijalo meno Astorka Korzo´90 podľa názvu bývalej kaviarne Astória, ktorá sa nachádzala v budove pôvodného sídla Divadla Astorka Korzo´90 na Suchom mýte 17. Od roku 2002 pôsobí Astorka na Námestí SNP 33.
